at the RITES 2012 Fall Conference 

Creating A Stronger Network to Support Science Education in Rhode Island:

Preparing to meet the Next Generation Science Standards Statewide

Featuring nationally recognized author of Writing in Science and Writing in Science in Action, Betsy Rupp Fulwiler.

On Saturday, October 13th, RITES will be holding its annual Fall Conference for middle and high school science teachers from our participating districts and we invite you to join us for the second Science Education Roundtable. This event will provide an opportunity for participants to further their partnerships with science educators and connect with over 130 middle and high school science teachers.

This Roundtable Event will be framed around meeting the challenges in science education today by showcasing models of success and discussing how they inform our actions. Workshops will focus on creating strategic plans to address the following issues:

Using the “Writing in Science” approach - Meeting the Common Core Through Writing

Connecting Scientists with Classrooms

Focusing on Scientific Practices- Addressing the NGSS

Field Experiences for Students

Developing Common Tasks and Assessments

Science Enrichment through Meaningful After-School Programs

College preparedness for STEM disciplines

RI Science Education Data Base

The keynote from Betsy Rupp Fulwiler will be at 9:00 am and we invite you to attend. The Science Education Roundtable Event will be held from 10:00 am to 12:45 pm and will be held at URI in the Center for Biotechnology and Life Sciences. Lunch will be provided.
